I have jsut recently moved into a beatifull home that has been empty for about 3 years, a few of the already established plantes where Cortaderia Selloana (pamaps Grass) i only know this name becuase the formaer owner was nice enough to leave all teh plant tags ona hook in the grage. i have doen some reading and i see that they should be trimmed back before spring growth, mine has already begun it's growth, waht should i do, just pull the dead growth out and cut it back next year, or should i go further??

You can still trim it now. It will certainly look better if you trim it off, otherwise it may be a long wait before the new growth conceals the old. The old grass is very strong and tough so you will need to cut it rather than pull it. Cut only the old foliage and take care not to damage the new foliage growing from the base. You can make the job a little easier by cutting it off straight across just above the height of the new growth. Use hand clippers or pruners, or an electric hedge shear or whatever you like to do the job. Next time, trim it back in either late fall or very early spring. Try to have it done before the daffodils bloom in your neighborhood. Enjoy your grass!
