I have a bleeding heart that I planted last fall that somehow got sheared off either by the wind, or it just got too heavey and fell right over. It's a beautifull plant and I don't want to lose it so I just stuck the stems back into the ground hoping they'll grow back. Will they be all right? or is it the end for them? |
It is unusual for this plant to simply topple over, normally it is a very sturdy grower and troublefree. You might check and see if there are any tunnels next to it indicating voles ate the roots, or if some other animal might have chewed it off, or if there are signs of decay at the base where rot might have caused the stems to separate. Your county extension or local nursery staff might be able to help you trouble shoot and depending what you find, figure out a way to prevent it happening again. I doubt that the top will root for you however the roots may survive and possibly send up new stems. This is important because the foliage is needed to help rebuild the plant's strength so it can bloom again next year. Good luck with your bleeding heart. |
