Magnolia soulangiana Alexander can grow into a tree about 25 feet tall and wide. It should be planted at least 20 feet from a building if you want to allow it to reach its full potential size. It can however be pruned to a smaller size, but any pruning would need to be done immediately after blooming in the spring each year. The reason for this is it blooms on wood that grew the previous year. There are some other, smaller-growing deciduous magnolias that might be a better choice if you have limited space. Please consult with your local retailer to determine what would be the most suitable plant for the location you have in mind.
