|Could you please tell me how to tell the genus and the species of the mimosa tree. Species being a subdivision of genus? And how to tell the difference. Also can a mimosa tree be kept alive in upstate NY throughout the winter months? Maybe some tips on how to?
Awaiting your reply in upstate NY.
Thank you for you time.
|For the mimosa trees as we know them, the genus is Albizia, the species is julibrissin. There might also be a cultivar name such as "Boubri" or "Rosea" following that, if it is a named selection. Selections are made based on special characteristics such as overall outline of the tree or flower coloring or some other notable feature that sets it apart. These trees are hardy only into zone 6. Unfortunately I do not know of a way to have one of these trees survive in upstate New York, it is just too cold where you live. I'm sorry.|
