| The most commonly grown hydrangea is the big leaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla). It produces flowers on new shoots that develop on old wood. To increase the number of flowers on your plant, prune the oldest stems down to 18-24" above soil level in the winter. The following spring new shoots will develop on the old stems and each new shoot should also produce at least one flower cluster. Enjoy! |
