I remember the mimosa tree my parents grew in our back yard in Deer Park, NY and how it bloomed pretty pink flowers in the summer. I was wondering if I might be able to grow one here in the Milwaukee area and will it survive the cold winters? Thanks!

Unfortunately, this tree is only considered hardy into zone 6 and your zip code places you in zone 5B. Depending on the microclimate of your yard and how sheltered your planting site is, it might possibly be considered the colder part of zone 6. On the other hand, it might be 5A or the colder part of zone 5 if it is an open, windy, and exposed spot. So, sadly, it most likely would not be able to survive your cold winters. I'm sorry I can't be more encouraging.
