I just bought a ruby grape plant. I read that it is fast growing. The only very sunny spot I have near a trellis is against the house. I know certain plants have root systems that can get into the foundation. Is this such a plant, or is it not as aggressive (such as clematis vines). It should be fine, but just checking. Do people plant grape vines close to the house (near the foundation?) thanks,
Aileen

Grapevines are vigorous growers but their root systems are not considered invasive. I have grapes growing within 3' of the foundation of my house and they climb up an attached deck and onto an overhead trellis. They provide wonderful summertime shade for my patio area, and I can pick the fruit with ease. They've been planted there for over 15 years and I haven't had a problem with their roots. Best wishes with your grapevines!
