Spring and fall, with their cooler temperatures and abundant rainfall, are the best times to transplant trees and shrubs. But, if you're careful, you can transplant anytime the weather is not blistering hot. If you transplant in the summer, be sure to keep your trees well watered so their root systems can become established without too much difficulty. Pruning or trimming trees and shrubs is usually done in early spring, just as new growth begins. The exceptions would be those that bloom in early spring. Wait until after they have finshed blooming and then prune them back.
