| The carpet roses are very low maintenance plants. You can remove the faded blooms if you wish, but it is not required. When you do this, take only the rose and the bare stem down to just above the first leaves, do not remove foliage. Alternatively after the bulk of the flowers have faded you can lightly shear the plant to remove them. The foliage helps the plant stay vigorous and continue blooming so you want to leave as much on the plant as possible. Also, I would stop deadheading in late August to help the plant begin naturally slowing and hardening off for the coming winter. That will also leave some hips in place as another season of interest and for the birds to enjoy. |
