I just got a planted First Love Gardenia for my birthday. I have been wanting one since our visit to the Oriental gardens in Portland last year---I LOVE how they smell and look! The card that came with it doesn't tell me anything about wind tollerance. I am in zone 8. How well do these do in pots? Right now it is in a pot about 15-20 gal. And what is this I have read about bringing then in winter time? We have placed in the front of the house to recieve the am sun and miss the hot period--however--periodically we get some 20-25mph winds--will this harm my plant??
Please help--I don't want to kill it):

First Love gardenia is one of the most wonderfully fragrant plants you can ever imagine! This plant is winter hardy in your gardening zone but if you keep it in a container you might want to wrap some insulating material around the container during the winter months to keep the roots from freezing. Roots in pots are much more exposed to the elements than those in the ground so this extra precaution will ensure your gardenia gets through the winter months without problem. Occasional winds won't harm your plant although the flowers may be bruised if the stems and branches are whipped around when the plant is in full bloom. I'd give it a try in the site - if it suffers too much damage you can always prune it back and move it to a more protected site. Enjoy!
