why do i have dark green patches on my lawn. our grass looks lovely but there is a few patches where the grass has gone greener and grown longer

Most people write that their grass is brown in patches, so I think you are better off! You didn't mention if you fertilize regularly. It could be that lawn fertilizer, which contains nitrogen to promote lush, green foliage, could be accidently overapplied in some of these areas, promoting excessive vegetation. Or, if the lawn is newly installed and the soil was improved and prepped below it, there could be richer soil with more organic matter beneath these patches. Organic matter is higher in nitrogen and would also promote growth.
