|My Mother, 2 sisters and I all bought your butterfly bushes last year, at Franks Nursery and Crafts (who did have a one year guaranty on their plants, but have since gone out of business) we brought them home and put them in our gardens. They grew fine and looked beautiful. We have all been waiting and watching for them to come back this spring, and none of them are growing. I feel that this is rather odd, since we all live in different areas, and still are having the same results. Any help you could give me would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
|I'm sorry but any warranty is per the retailer's policy. Some varieties of butterfly bush are hardier than others, but most are reliably winter hardy into zone 6. They often die back to the ground or close to it in cold winter areas so they are considered to be cutback shrubs. Most gardeners routinely trim them back to about a foot high each spring and wait for them to resprout. They grow fast and will still bloom just fine. They tend to survive best if planted in a sheltered spot with protection from the winter wind plus a very well drained soil and a thick layer of mulch over the roots for the winter. I'm sorry about your plants.
