We bought 3 Jacaranda trees in February 2005 from Summerwinds nursery here in Palo Alto.
All three lost all of the original foliage during the spring, but then two trees regenerated;
the third tree is now barren but for a few very small green sprouts along some of the branches. Is this typical, or is this third tree dying? Even the third tree has something
resembling blossoms forming at the top of the branches.

New green growth is a hopeful sign that your Jacaranda is trying to adjust to its new home. I wouldn't give up on it just yet. Transplanting can really stress trees and it sounds as though all 3 of yours were really stressed out. Continue to water deeply once each week and I think all three of your trees will regain their health.

Best wishes with your landscape!
