I bought a Japanese Maple(Emperor 1) last summer. It did well and looked fine. This year I have no buds coming on it. Is it dead? I have scratched it and it is green and branches are a nice burgundy color.

I would suggest you consult with your local retailer as to what to expect for your tree. If there is green under the bark and the branches are still supple and the buds are plump and firm it may be fine, however it seems late for a Japanese maple to be bare of leaves. I hope it is okay.
