I have a vigorous Clematis Avalanche. When should I prune it so that it flowers the next year? it is outgrowing its space. Thank you.

Shape or tidy up the plant AFTER flowering is finished. It blooms on the previous year's growth, so resist the urge to prune it in early spring, unless you won't mind losing the current season's bloom.
