Something is wrong in the roots or the base of the stem. Usually this is due to a root rot. These are often brought on by overwatering. If the damage is not too severe you may be able to save it by simply keeping the soil only slightly moist. Otherwise you will need to ask at a local garden center for a fungicide labeled for root rots.
