| I have a patchy lawn and tried to sow some seeds and grow some new grass and found a dead spot while walking on the lawn that felt hard. After further looking into it I found what looks like a tree stump/root that was too large to pull out with my bare hands or get under with a shovel. I was able to dig a trace around it but can't tell how far under it goes and where else it it goes. How should I remove this to get my lawn looking healthy without digging under my lawn, sidewalk and up to the nearest tree??? I bought the Ortho Brush-B-Gon that claims to be a stump killer but wanted to hear an expert advice before I add this chemical to the stump/root in the middle of my lawn. |
| If the root is still attached to a living tree there is not much you can do about it -- because damaging the root will damage the tree. Also, if you cut a living root it will usually grow right back. If it is dead, you can saw it off below grade, trace it along as far as the lawn shows its effect, and saw the other end there. That is the fastest way to get rid of it. Then you would need to patch the lawn. I hope this helps. |
