I want to cover a 30'x5' front with a climbing rose collection. I live in NY close to NY City, what variety would be the best.

I would suggest you work with roses that are grown on their own roots and very winter hardy, have good disease resistance and are able to rebloom if well cared for. My personal favorites are in the Explorer Series, those such as John Cabot and William Baffin. These both grow about 8 feet tall. Your local professional nursery staff may also have suggestions. Keep in mind that roses require a bare minimum of six hours a day of direct sun including the hour of noon, need good air circulation, and need soil that is well drained, meaning not soggy or sopping wet. Good luck with your project!
