|I live in zone 8; hot humid East Texas. What is a moderate shrub that will do well near a pool and lend itself to an Italian landscape theme? I have the Monrovia noblis laurel tree as well as red (Don Juan) climbing roses. I also am debating about lavender (hidcote) but am concerned it may attract bees???|
I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. We are transitioning to a new Q&A system and your question was unfortunately lost in the transition. I have discovered it now and hope this reply is not too late to be of help.
The lavendar will suffer in your humidity and frequent rainfall. I think for a shrub you might consider one of the junipers such as:
Juniperus virginiana `Idyllwild`
Moderate growth 15 feet tall, 5 to 7 feet wide.
BLUE POINT JUNIPER
Juniperus chinensis `Blue Point`
Moderate-growing to 12 feet tall, 8 feet wide.
Juniperus virginiana 'Skyrocket' (J. scopulorum 'Skyrocket')
Fast grower to 15 to 20 feet tall, 2 to 3 feet wide.
WICHITA BLUE JUNIPER
Juniperus scopulorum `Wichita Blue`
Moderate grower to 10 to 15 feet tall, 4 to 6 feet wide. Larger with age.
Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
