Apple Tree or a bunch of sticks? - Knowledgebase Question

We recently bought a self-fertile apple tree. It's been in the ground over a month and there are no leaves or anything on it. It's just a bunch of branches! Is it alive or should we try again?

Oh, I hope it's not just a bunch of sticks - but it should have developed floewrs and leaves by now. To check the status, scrape the bark from one or two of the stems and look for live tissue; if tissue beneath the bark is green, it's still alive and there's still hope; if tissue beneath the bark is brown, that stem or branch is dead. Keep checking various parts of the tree. If it's dead, it's dead, but if you find green tissue, there's still hope. I'll cross my fingers for you!
