| I purchased bone meal instead of dried blood. The gardener said it would be fine to use. When I checked the box for directions and found none. How do I use each? I want to give my plants a boost and need to discourage a rabbit too! Do you mix water? Sprinkle on? And what are the amounts and conditions for using them? |
| Bone meal is a material made from ground animal bone (usually cattle) and used as an organic fertilizer with an NPK ratio of 4-21-0.2. Most gardeners sprinkle about one cup of bone meal per 100 square feet of garden. Scratch it into the soil with a rake or cultivator. Blood meal (or dried blood) is a rich source of nitrogen. You can incorporate it into the soil (at the same rate as bone meal) or you can sprinkle it around the plants you want to discourage rabbits from nibbling. If you sprinkle it on the plant and around the soil, the bunnies will get a sniff and (hopefully) hop away. |
