|We want to make an arborvitae fence around our backyard. Summers are 90-105 degrees, winters can be -10 to 34 degrees. We want one that stays green year round, grows relatively fast, and can reach a height of 15 feet or so. Which variety should we go with? The Emerald Green seems to be popular in the stores but I know nothing about it.|
|Emerald Green arborvitaes are a good choice for your living fence. This pyramidal beauties grow to a height of 10 to 15 feet, with a spread of 3 to 4 feet. They displays their bright lustrous emerald green color all year, and do not discolor in winter. Its very compact and tight growing habit make it an excellent choice for a screen when spaced 3 feet apart in the row.
Although not drought-tolerant, 'Emerald Green' arborvitae does fine in full sun (it doesn't mind partial shade, however). Be sure to grow in a well-drained soil.
