Mimosa trees respond well to pruning, and you can prune after flowering has finished. If your tree is quite overgrown, you'll want to prune in steps, taking 2-3 years to complete the job. If it's just beginning to grow too large, you can easily remove one-third of the live material without harming your tree. If you need to remove more than that, cut it back by one-third this year, then cut it back again next year and the third year, until it's the right size for your landscape.
