I have a plant that kind of looks like a palm tree. It is about 4 ft tall. It grows straight up then breaks into a palm like green leaves. What is it?

There are hundred of kinds of palm trees, so if it looks like a palm, it probably is. There is one exception - Ravenala madagascariensis, the Traveler's Palm. This looks like a palm tree trunk with a top of leaves arranged fanlike. It looks almost like tail feathers on a peacock. Quite interesting, really.
