|I am looking for some type of fast to moderate growth privacy screening for the side of my house from front to back. My neighbors are building a second story and there goes my privacy. I currently have a couple of red tip photinias in the back which are about 8ft tall now and could work for the back if there were enough of them but I want something different for the front. In the back I planted podocarpus for interest which I'm considering replacing I planted them approximately 9 months ago but there has hardly been any growth. I would like to know what other types of evergreen leafy shrubs or small trees that will grow up to 15 or 20 ft tall, and will not totally block all the sunlight. The space along the side is approximately 50ft long in the rear and 50ft. in front. It is approx 6-8ft wide and sits on a slight hill approx 3-4 ft with a retaining wall. There is a 6' fence which runs from front to back. Evergreen is essential and low maintenance is key.
|Leyland cypress is a popular tree for screening and privacy plantings. You might also consider "Witchita Blue" or "Skyrocket" junipers. These are reasonably fast growing, upright plants. Or, American arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis) is a tall, columnar evergreen that's a natural for planting in rows for quick screening. Hope one of these suggestions works for you in your landscape!|
