As you probably know, Mediterranean plants are adapted to full sun and well-drained, even gravelly, soil with minimal organic matter, and arid conditions that are quite different from Britain. You might try an herb garden with herbaceous plants like lavender, rosemary, santolina, oregano, thyme, in which you can build up the soil in raised beds to promote drainage. I suggest you visit some of your great public gardens to see what kinds of Mediterranean plants typically thrive. Good luck!
