I have six dwarf alberta spruce i would like to shape them and trim some could you please tell me if i can use electric shears or hand clippers I don't want to ruin the shrub. Also when is the best time? |
These dwarf trees grow very slowly. They can be trimmed only lightly; if you cut too much at once you will have bare spots that may not grow back. The best time to trim it is in the spring when you see the new growth. After that, an occasional light trim can be done to tidy it a little bit at a time. Their natural shape is very regular in outline so they should not need much if any trimming. The preferred tool would be a very sharp by-pass style hand pruner to allow you to selectively trim the tips one by one as needed. |
