|Potentilla fruticosa is a shrub, most cultivars are in the size range of one to two feet high and wide. They do well in full sun all day or for at least a half a day and are easy to care for. Each spring trim it back by about half its size to remove winter damage and shape the plant uniformly. In summer after the first big flowering, lightly trim it back or shear to remove the faded flowers and stimulate reblooming later in the summer. Each spring apply a top dressing of good quality compost and/or a general purpose granular or slow release fertilizer such as 10-10-10 per the label instructions. Maintain a layer of organic mulch, it should be a flat layer two to three inches deep over the root area but do not put it up against the stems. While it is becoming established, keep the soil evenly moist but not sopping wet. Once established it should not need watering except during extended dry spells. Enjoy your potentilla.|
