I was renting a house a few years ago where there was an unusual lilac. The leaves are velvety, the flowers are white and very delicate and drape downward. When the shrub is in bloom it looks as if it's draped in lace and smells absolutely heavenly. The owner told me it was a Japanese lilac but I have searched Japanese lilacs and they do not resemble this shrub. Any ideas? Thanks |
Rose, I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. We are transitioning to a new Q&A system and your question was unfortunately lost in the transition. I have discovered it now and hope this reply is not too late to be of help. I have searched for a Japanese Lilac that fits your description and found none. The only thing that partly fits your description that comes to mind is a Japanese snowbell (Styrax japonica), but it's foliage is not velvety and the blooms are not that fragrant. There is more info on this plant at the following website: http://www.cnr.vt.edu/dendro/d... Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon! |
