True bulb lilies (Lilium) and Daylilies (Hemerocallis) are both usually deadheaded to remove the faded flowers and prevent the plant using energy to produce seed. Lilies are deadheaded by removing each individual flower by snipping it off with a scissors or sharp bypass hand pruner. Leave the foliage and the main upright stem intact to continue growing so the bulb will regain its strength. Daylily blooms last only a day and can be snapped off easily in your hand. Be sure to take the base of the flower along with the petals. Once all of the blooms on a tall stem (scape) have faded you can cut the scape off, too. I hope this answers your question.
