Formal look on Crape Myrtle - Knowledgebase Question

On the tag of the Crape Myrtle I recently purchased it says to maintain a formal look shear it after flowering.What does that mean and how do you shear a tree?Thank you for your time.

That is basically either saying to cut off the blooms (which I recommend) or to actually shear back the entire top to a rounded form which would also remove blooms. I don't recomment such shearing as crapes don't need this and it can in my opinion mar the natural beauty of the plant. The following web site provides info on pruning crape myrtles:
