I have a River Burch tree that was planted about 10 feet from my house on top of the sewer line. Two questions. (1) Will the roots destroy my sewer line and/or foundation? (2) Can I trim the top to prevent the tree from growing 40 feet high?

Anywhere there are openings in the sewer tank or line the roots will likely invade. I doubt the roots will grow to a size at your foundation 10' away that would threaten to damage it. You can trim the top although it may not look really natural. If this becomes a problem you can always remove the tree later. I think in the short to medium term it will not be a problem.
