last year a chilean mesquite about 3 years old started turning yellow and died during the late summer. This year a chilean mesquite 6 yrs old 1/2 of tree is turning yellow and dropping leaves the other 1/2 is growing very well. Can you tell me the problem? |
When plants die suddenly in the heat of summer, it is sometimes caused by a soil borne disease called Cotton (Texas) Root Rot. However, Chilean mesquite is usually tolerant of the disease. The University of Arizona offers a free publication describing this condition more fully. Go to the website at http://ag.arizona.edu/maricopa... and go to Diseases of Ornamentals. Choose AZ1150. Another possibility is that the trees aren't receiving sufficient water through the entire root zone both depth and horizontally. If after reading this publication you don't think that is the problem, send another email describing your watering methods and we'll go from there. |
