Red Grape Spiderwort - full sun or part shade? - Knowledgebase Question

I planted red grape spiderwort for the first time in late June and put them on our driveway so they could get full sun as indicated by the information tag on them. I'm confused though that the blooms always close up by mid morning and when I read about them at Monrovia's site, one artical says to put them in part shade while a different section says full sun. I haven't found anything to suggest the blooms normally close up so early in the day. The driveway does get much hotter than anywhere else in our small yard.

Monrovia's Plant Information says their particular varieties bloom best in full sun. One of my other references says spiderworts can grow in sun or shade. Many plants will have a range in which they will perform. Spiderwort blooms open only for one day, and indeed the extra heat reflected from the driveway may be an issue. Spiderworts reproduce readily and usually need division every 2-3 years, so you can try some in another location to see how they perform. Good luck!
