My husband has applied weed and feed on our lawn twice now with not much success at killing the weeds. It is a granular mix (not a brand name, just a store brand) that he applies using a broadcast spreader. He's followed the instructions on how to apply too. Why isn't this product working? Should we try a liqiud weed and feed instead? |
This type of product usually works better in the spring when things are actively growing but before the weeds become large and established; it will also work on only certain types of weeds. I would suggest you consult with your local county extension to identify the weeds in your lawn and work out a control plan specifically for them. Also, the healthier your lawn overall, the better the grass will crowd out the weeds so make sure you are mowing regularly (and high enough usually two and a half to three inches now that it is summer), that the pH is suitable, and also that you are not overfertilizing it. In some cases too there are underlying issues of compaction or lack of sunlight or poor drainage that can contribute to lawn grasses not growing well, consequently the weeds will become dominant. Your county extension should be able to help you analyze the conditions in your yard and see if something like this could also be limiting your success against the weeds. Good luck with your lawn! |
