|I am starting my first ever veggie garden here in MA. As an Air Force family, I can't have a very large garden on base property, and I will be moving every three years or so, so I don't want plants that take two years to produce! (SO much for myraspberries.) What do you suggest I plant?|
| The nice thing about most vegetables is that they just take one season to yield. So what do you and your family like? Plant those and enjoy! Some plants require lots of space--corn and pumpkins come to mind--so you might skip those if space is really tight. And choose bush varieties of beans and squash to conserve space, or grow vining types on trellises. Just forget perennial edibles like rhubarb, asparagus, and horseradish!
I would suggest that you call the Massachusetts Extension service fora soil test. That way you'll amend the soil in the best way so you get wonderful food. Here is the phone number and web site url:
