We recently purchased a banksian rose from our local nursery Summer winds here in Az. The rose was planted in a soil media the nursery indicated. I watered it deeply the first three days. The leaves started to shrivle and fall off ? while it appears to still have flexible branches, what can I do to save it ? I purchased it on 7/14/05. Thanks |
It's really no secret that your gardening region has endured several weeks of 110 to 119 degree weather this summer, so I think your newly planted rose is suffering from both transplant shock and the results of incredibly hot weather. Keeping the roots moist should keep it alive, but the tops may burn down quite a bit, which will include loss of foliage and flowers. Wait until the weather cools in October or November and prune back the damaged stems and branches. Once the heat lets up the roots should establish themselves and prepare to replace the lost stems and foliage. Best wishes with your new rose! |
