|Hi, do you know if Stephan Jasmine will grow okay in Tucson? My neighbors are growing Star Jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides) and it does fine now that they've gotten it out of the afternoon sun. I'm also concerned about what kind of soil stephan jasmine likes, it's alkaline here. I've been to three nurseries in town and surprised that none of them knew of stephan jasmine.|
|Stephan Jasmine is a hardy jasmine and grows well in Zones 5-10. It grows in full sun to part shade. In your gardening region it will appreciate some protection from hot afternoon sun. When in bloom, the hummingbirds flock to it. You can observe hummingbirds up close when they are feeding on this vine -- they love it so much they will totally ignore you. The flowers have a nice fragrance. Stephan jasmine is a strong grower with really lovely foliage. Provide moist but well drianed soil and expect it to grow to about 15'. Jasmines are adaptable to most soil types but for best growth and flowering, amend your soil with organic matter (peat or compost) to acidify it slightly.|
Enjoy your garden!
