|I'm from the hills of Kentucky and the women folk down there do not make pumpkin pies. They grow what they call "cushaws" and make, what they call Cushaw pies. They grow fairly large and they are almost white in color. I was wondering the name of that particular squash and does Burpee sell the seeds to it. The pies taste a lot better than a regular pumpkin pie. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

|A cushaw is loosely defined as any of several types of crookneck winter squash. Folks in the Appalachias tend to lump things together - I know, I live in the heart of the Appalachias now! I believe you are looking for the type that is marketed specifically as Cushaw Squash. This is currently available from Seeds Blum at www.seedsblum.com/squash.htm. The one they carry has a green striped exterior though, not white. Were you referring to the flesh of the squash being white? The one offered by SeedsBlum is described as "good for pie" so I am betting it's the one!
