The front of my house is lined with very large Azalea's that are in much need of pruning back by a few feet. They produce only a few dozen large blooms per bush. My question is this: Is it too late in the year to prune these azaleas, or do I need to wait until next year? I live in Zone 8b, if this helps.

Patricia,

It is really on the line. I would go ahead if you can do so quickly, but realizing that it may affect next year's blooms which are setting now. Your plants may be able to regrow and set blooms by fall in your southern location. Since they only produced a few blooms I don't think you have much to lose anyway. One reason for their lack of blooms could be a lack of adequate light. Azaleas bloom best in a bright shade with perhaps some morning sun or dappled shade/sun through the day.

Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
