I have seeded, fertilized, watered, etc, etc, but to no avail our lawn, here in Vancouver WA is turning brown. I have used Scott's Turf Builder, Weed & Feed and a known for the area seed. Is there something else that can be done? The front lawn was plush and green and now it is turning brown. Help, please.

If you've done everything right in terms of preparing the seed bed, sowing the seeds, fertilizing, watering and mowing, and the grass is still turning brown, then the only logical explanation is that the grass seed mixture was predominately cool-season grasses. These plants go dormant in the hot summer months, but quickly green up again in the fall and remain green until July. They turn brown in the summer, no matter how much water you provide. The only alternative to allowing the lawn to brown out in the heat of summer is to overseed with warm season grasses. This will give you some green in the summertime, but not a lush, green lawn. The warm season grasses will go dormant in the fall, when the weather cools, but the cool season grasses will perk up and turn green.

Hope this explains what is going on with your lawn!
