Magnolia grandiflora 'Little Gem', a dwarf variety of the evergreen magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora), but only a quarter of its size. 'Little Gem' will reach approximately 12' in height and 8' in width. It has a dense growth habit, glossy leaves with a rusty reverse, and creamy white, perfumed flowers in spring and summer. Other dwarf trees with fragrant flowers (4' - 13' Tall) include: Purpleleaf Sand Cherry has purple foliage all season and fragrant flowers in May. Weeping Pussy Willow and Weeping Peashrubs have graceful trailing branches that "weep" to the ground. A Cranberry Cotoneaster Tree has a round, arching form and attractive, small red berries in fall. Peegee Hydrangea produces large, cone-shaped blooms, late summer to autumn. Another good choice is the Standard Dwarf Lilac with its perfect globular form and mauve flowers in May. It never requires pruning. Flowering Almond produces masses of double pink blossoms in the spring while Fragrant Snowball is remembered for its large, very fragrant, white flowers.
