I would like to know when, or if, I should prune my clematis vine. It is the Jackmanii variety, and just now has finished flowering on new growth. I live in zone 4, northern Michigan. Also what kind of fertilizing schedule should I follow?
Thank you very much.

Clematis in the Jackman group of hybrids (such as jackmanii) bloom on new growth (wood grown in the same year). Prune your clematis in the spring, just as the buds swell or slightly before. You can prune to within 4-6" of the base if you wish, and the plant will produce lots of new twining growth during the spring.

I use fish emulsion once a month during the growing season but you could use a liquid fertilizer such as Miracle Gro once each month.
