Hydrangeas - Knowledgebase Question

Ann Arbor, MI

I'd like to plant hydrangeas in my front yard along a privacy fence. The hydrangeas would face east...and have considerable shade...will they do well in that area and in our zone, which I believe is a 5 for Ann Arbor, Michigan 48103? Is there a specific type of hydrangea that would do best in our area? Thanks so much! Marci

Endless Summer hydrangea takes the most shade (minimum 4 hours of sunlight) and produces flowers on both old and new wood, so you wouldn't have to worry about winter dieback. During the season, to encourage rebloom, remove spent flowers, and some of the stem. This will encourage new growth which will result in nearly continuous blooming all summer long.
