Does this bamboo shoot up runners? Does it not keep expanding? |
Heavenly Bamboo is the common name for Nandina. It's not a bamboo at all, but the common name comes from the fact that the stems of this shrub appear bamboo-like. Nandina does expand with age, but not to the extent a running or clumping bamboo might. The roots do send up shoots, but they are very close to the parent plant so you won't find them in another part of your landscape bed. The new shoots are the plants way of renew itself. You can cut the old stems down when they become bare at the bottom and the new shoots will thrive and take their places. |
