What is the best way to take cuttings from a mandevilla plant? |
You can propagate mandevilla by taking tip cuttings. You'll have more success in the spring, but you can certainly take some cuttings now. Who knows - they may root for you. Here's the process: Choose side shoots, 2 or 3 inches long, dip the cut ends in rooting hormone and insert in sandy peat. Drape plastic wrap over the cuttings and the pot to help with humidity. They should root in 2-3 weeks. The rooted cuttings should be potted individually in 3-inch pots. After a few days, pinch the tips of the main shoots to encourage side shoots to form. Once the side shoots grow, transfer them to 5-inch pots. They may be planted outdoors when they are well-rooted. |
