Planted in May and recently lost all leaves from the center of the plant. Well watered, but would wilt by noon each day. Finally leaves remained only on the tips. What happened? |
Viburnum dentatum 'Chicago Lustre' or Chicago Lustre Arrowwood is hardy to Zone 4, and grows 10-15' high and wide. It will grow in full sun in cool summer areas but needs some shade from hot afternoon sunshine in your area. It is an excellent choice for wet soils. This selection of Arrowwood is known for its glossy dark green foliage. Showy, bluish black fruit is a favorite of the birds. An added bonus are the flowers that appear in spring. Dense and compact growing makes an excellent hedge. It sounds to me as though your viburnum went through some transplant shock (the initial leaf drop) and is now suffering from too much hot afternoon sunshine. Wait until this fall when the weather cools down and move your plant to a more protected area. It should rebound and look good next spring. |
