|I planted artemesia 'Powis Castle' in a site will full sun and quick draining soil. I do not water it much. The leaves turned yellow near the base of the plant and then fell off. It looks very leggy. What caused this condition, and is there anything I can do for the plant to make it fuller? The soil is the acid type.
Thanks for any information you will be able to give me.
|It sounds as though the environmental conditions are just right for your Artemesia. To keep these plants neat in appearance with a mounded look, you'll need to pinch out the tips of the stems once or twice during the summer months. You can cut the entire plant down to ground level next spring, just as new growth appears. If you don't you'll end up with woody stems and only a topknot of fresh new growth. You can cut your plants back a little now, or wait until next spring. Remember to pinch the tips back twice during the summer months and by this time next year you'll have an attractive, mounding shrub. Enjoy!|
