Would I need any shading for the Skylands oriental spruce in my area?

You might possibly find a need to shade it from the southwest side in the winter at first. Here is a description of doing that you might find interesting. Generally speaking though it is a plant for full sun -- just as the other spruces would be.

Your local professional nursery staff and/or county extension may have additional suggestions. You should also check whether or not they feel this tree would be hardy for you. It is considered hardy into zone 5 and your zip code places you in zone 4 which is substantially colder.
