|I have been in the market for an Emperor I Japanese Maple tree, approximately 7-8 feet tall. I have not been able to find one and wondered if you can give me advise on how to find one. I have grown tired of calling and traveling from nursery to nursery over the summer. Can you help?|
|Thank you for asking. If the local nurseries do not have it, you may want to check in nearby larger cities or perhaps the local nursery can suggest a substitute. Keep in mind too that selections tend to be wider in the spring. One other point comes to mind and might contribute to its scarcity in your area: this tree is only considered hardy into zone 5. Your zip code places you in zone 5A or the coldest part of zone 5. Depending on your microclimate, you might even be gardening in zone 4. If your local nurserymen do not feel it will be reliably winter hardy they probably will not carry it. This might be something to discuss with them, and/or with your county extension. |
Unfortunately, I have no way of checking which nurseries or garden centers would have this particular plant in stock on hand or be able to obtain it for you. They are independent stores and each carries its own selection, so you need to check with them directly and see -- which it sounds like you are already doing. There is a dealer locator at the web site that is searchable by zip code and provides contact information.
I'm sorry I can't be more specific for you and I do hope you find what you are looking for. Best of luck with your search!
